Spend as much time studying as you spend time playing.

Shenelle from 2012

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

The most productive for me was the culture class, because I was able to learn many Japanese cultural aspects that you just don't learn in the normal class.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

I really enjoyed our small group conversations and working with the other students. We were able to talk to one on another about the topics learned in class, as well as get to know one another after finishing our prompts.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

Getting to learn all the different culture aspects of Japanese culture and then going out and experiencing them first hand.

Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?

Make sure to spend as much time studying as you spend time playing. I have seen a handful of students over this last quarter who have come to KCP and go out to party every night and rarely study. They are constantly missing class but then wonder why they are not getting good grades at all. They also don't actively practice speaking Japanese and have a hard time even communicating to the teachers in class. If you aren't going to take this seriously, don't even bother coming to study abroad.

Testimonials

I chose this program because of its well-favored reviews on various sites as well as the intensity provided by the classes. I looked for a challenge and KCP certainly provided that for me.
