I most enjoyed the field trip to Hakone Shrine, Odawara Castle, and Owakudani. Not only did we get to see some beautiful places, we also played Jan Ken Pon Derby and watched part of Princess Mononoke on the bus!

I enjoyed interacting with the other students from the asian programs and meeting people, since we are all trying to learn Japanese we all try to use what we learn on each other as well as teach others about ourselves.

The speech contest was a good way for me to work on something a bit more complicated and long than the things we normally write for class.

This is for serious students only, but it is very effective for those who want to learn Japanese seriously and efficiently.

I thought being in a class full almost entirely of students that could not speak English was very helpful, as it forced me to communicate in Japanese in order to make friends.

I continue to learn the language, I continue to make new friends, I continue to find new, unfamiliar and exciting places and all of this was possible because I made the decision to learn at KCP.

Talking about issues concerning foreigners in Japan especially was helpful, as it prepared me for what to expect as a foreigner living in Japan. It also gave me a deeper understanding of the Japanese people and, as a result, the language that I’m studying.

I really enjoyed the trips. I feel that being able to see something first hand is very different than reading or listening about it.

The teachers that I had (Mamiya Sensei, Saitou Sensei & Kawashima Sensei) were all so kind and helpful and really added so much depth to their lessons that they made everyday learning fun and beneficial.

I was able to experience a small bit of more traditional Japanese culture and see the large difference of Japan’s geography from America’s.
